Some women may look at vaginal dryness only as a side issue of being in the menopausal stage that they don’t take it seriously. On the other hand, some middle-aged females are having a hard time dealing with it. In fact, many of them can no longer live a normal life because of this symptom of menopause. Out of all the signs that you will experience as you approach and reach the menopausal stage, vaginal dryness is the only thing that has a stigma attached to it. This is why some ladies tend to feel embarrassed that they don’t want to talk about it.
However, vaginal dryness is something that you should not be ashamed of. Instead, you should be more open especially to your fellow women as well as healthcare professionals.
What causes vaginal dryness?
During and after the menopausal stage, every woman experiences vaginal dryness. This is due to the decrease in the estrogen level in a woman’s body. The said hormone is responsible for nourishing the vaginal walls and muscles. It also keeps a female organ moisturized. But with a low level of estrogen, the vagina will no longer be able to produce enough moisture or fluid.
Furthermore, inadequate estrogen also results to a loose vagina since the muscles down there will lose their suppleness. Along with this, a woman may start to experience itching, inflammation, or irritation.
How to deal with vaginal dryness?
Fortunately, there are several ways on how you can cope up the dryness caused by menopause.
Below are the possible treatments;
Hormone replacement therapy
This method has become very popular among women who are already in their 40s and 50s. It is highly effective because, as the name suggests, this therapy replaces the hormone estrogen in the body. Once you undergo this procedure, you can expect that the other symptoms such as mood swings and nights sweats will be eliminated.
You have to take note though that hormone replacement therapy is not suitable for all women especially those who have suffered from estrogen responsive cancer in the past. Therefore, it would be best to seek the advice of your doctor before taking advantage of this therapy.
Creams or gel as lubricant
Another possible option to treat vaginal dryness is through the use of creams or gel as a lubricant. Mainly, such products are used to tighten the vagina.
Proper diet and supplement
You can also solve problems with vaginal dryness if you observe proper diet and eat healthy foods. As much as possible, stick to fruits and vegetables as they contain plant estrogen.
